During the British period Ross Island is the Capital of these Islands, now only ruin of the bygone days are left here.In Ross Island Smritika a small museum holds photographs and other antiques of that period were kept here.

It is also known by the name Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Island in South Andaman. This island is situated few kilometres far from Port Blair and easily accessible. Japanese war bunkers and canons  are still present of the Japanese army during the World War II.
